Book Blast 2010

In 2010 I read a total of 184 books, compared to 220 in 2009.

Not surprisingly, I again favored reality fiction (the study of personalities) and biographies. I like books that tell me what people do.

I didn’t count Bible-reading on my list, but I read it twice in seven months besides working more slowly through two chapters a day for the entire year. My favorite part of my reading this year was seeing the whole story point to Jesus.

Top Book Picks of 2010

This is really hard!

Upon My Lips A Song, Kate Smith (I have long loved Kate Smith’s natural voice (if not her music choices). From her autobiography I also came to appreciate her approach to studying new music and being contentedly, chastely unmarried.)

Life Is So Good, George Dawson (Feeding my fascination for centenarians. Mr. Dawson, my new hero, learned to read at age 98 and lived to be 103.)

My Desire and The Wide, Wide World, Susan Warner (Two books that have been on my shelf for years. I don’t know why it took me so long to read them. They were both blessings—if a little sentimental, as befits the era in which they were written.)

Rocket Surgery Made Easy, Steve Krug (The sequel to my favorite book on designing websites, Don’t Make Me Think.)

Why Johnny Can’t Sing Hymns, T. David Gordon (A new book that is making some lovely waves in evangelical land. Personally, I enjoyed the surfing and pray I can imitate his gracious tone when speaking my own convictions.)

Financial Peace and other books by Dave Ramsey (Continuing my financial education. I have a lot to learn. But I have a balanced budget and an emergency fund. That should count for something.)

What did you read in 2010?
